Overview
- BYD opened public Flash Charging stations in Germany and the UK in early June, and the company says more sites are going live as it begins European operations.
- The stations are rated up to 1,500 kW and BYD says vehicles with its Blade Battery 2.0 and 800V+ architecture can charge from 10% to 70% in about five minutes and to 97% in about nine minutes.
- BYD plans to spend €2 billion to build roughly 3,000 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2026, with a target of 300 sites in the UK and promotional offers for early Denza buyers.
- Stations use large on‑site battery storage that recharges at off‑peak times so the chargers can deliver brief megawatt peaks without repeatedly overloading local grid connections.
- The rollout could force price and speed competition with operators such as Ionity and Tesla, but real‑world impact depends on vehicle compatibility, battery and connector supply, permitting and regulatory scrutiny.
