BYD Expands Shark 6 Ute Line With Cab-Chassis and 3500kg-Towing Performance Model
The update aims to pull diesel ute shoppers toward a plug-in hybrid.
Overview
- BYD expanded the Shark 6 range Wednesday with a work-focused Dynamic cab-chassis now on sale at $55,900 before on-road costs and a Performance flagship priced at $62,900 due in May.
- The Performance grade swaps in a larger 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with dual motors for 350kW and 700Nm, cuts the 0–100km/h time to 5.5 seconds, and lifts braked towing to 3500kg.
- A new Crawl Mode debuts on the Performance, capping speed at 20km/h and auto-adjusting torque to keep wheels turning on rough terrain, with an over-the-air rollout to other grades later this year.
- The Dynamic cab-chassis retains the 1.5-litre PHEV system with 321kW and 650Nm and an LFP battery, but drops some features including a smaller infotainment screen, and offers an optional Ironman 4x4 tray with pricing to follow.
- BYD sold 18,073 Shark 6 utes in 2025 to lead Australia’s plug-in hybrids, and the new tray-ready entry model plus a 3500kg-rated flagship target buyers who might otherwise pick Ford Ranger or Toyota HiLux diesels.
