BYD Expands Shark 6 Lineup With Performance Model and Cab‑Chassis to Push Fleet Sales

Variant upgrades and a commercial body style are intended to convert diesel ute buyers and lift monthly Shark 6 sales toward 1,500.

Overview

  • BYD has sold more than 24,000 Shark 6 plug‑in hybrid dual‑cab utes in Australia since the model's February 2025 launch, a performance the company says created the PHEV ute micro‑segment.
  • The new Shark 6 Performance adds a 2.0‑litre turbo engine and stronger front motor to raise combined output to about 350 kW and 700 Nm and increase braked towing capacity to 3,500 kg.
  • The Dynamic cab‑chassis gives the Shark 6 a simple commercial bed for trades and fleets, and BYD reports several hundred orders for that body style with thousands more in its pipeline.
  • BYD is targeting at least 1,500 Shark 6 sales per month and plans a 2026 sales mix of roughly 55% Premium, 25% Performance and 20% cab‑chassis while aiming to grow fleet share to about 20% (18% in April).
  • The move seeks to chip away at Australia's diesel‑ute incumbents by offering PHEV alternatives to fleet and trade buyers in a market where fleets made about 35% of sales in 2025 and BYD claims roughly 70% of the PHEV ute segment.
