BYD Confirms Single Yangwang U9 Xtreme for Australia After Beijing Order
The lone allocation will act as a halo for BYD’s Australian push.
Overview
- At Auto China in Beijing, buyer Nick Politis placed an order and BYD leaders presented a scale model confirming Australia’s allocation, with delivery expected early next year.
- Only 30 U9 Xtremes will be built in left-hand drive, with no more than one per export market and one confirmed for Australia.
- BYD says the quad-motor EV makes 2220kW and achieved 496.22km/h and a 6:59.157 Nürburgring lap, figures that have not been independently verified.
- The car is expected to cost more than US$1 million in Australia, which would set a new price high for a Chinese-made car sold locally.
- Politis, who directs dealer group Eagers Automotive and chairs the Sydney Roosters, says the car will promote BYD and Denza in Australia and he hopes to secure road approval despite its left-hand-drive layout.
