Overview
- Orders for the BYD Shark opened on Wednesday and the company says first customer deliveries are due in the fourth quarter of 2026 with prices starting at £47,290 including VAT.
- The Shark uses BYD’s Super Hybrid DMO system with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and two electric motors, a roughly 32kWh battery that delivers about 55 miles of pure-electric range, 55kW DC fast charging and up to 6.6kW vehicle-to-load power.
- BYD quotes around 430bhp and 650Nm of torque for the Shark, giving a claimed 0–62 mph time of 5.7 seconds and WLTP combined range of about 419 miles on a full tank and full charge.
- The pickup is rated for 2,500kg towing and a 790kg payload, and that sub‑1,000kg payload means it does not meet the UK threshold for commercial VAT relief, reducing its financial appeal to many business buyers.
- Sold in a single high-spec trim with features such as a 15.6-inch touchscreen, head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, 12‑speaker Dynaudio sound and a 360-degree camera, the Shark joins BYD’s global rollout and may attract private buyers even as it reshapes fleet buying choices due to recent UK tax and classification changes.
