BVG Shuts Two Customer Centers in Berlin, Consolidates In-Person Service to Six Sites

BVG cites weak footfall at the closed locations, with staff redeployed to support longer opening times.

Overview

  • The Hermannplatz and Holzmarktstraße centers have been removed from service in mid-December, reducing the walk-in network to six locations.
  • BVG says the two sites drew significantly less demand than other centers and were no longer profitable.
  • Staff from the closed counters are being reassigned to the remaining centers to expand consultation capacity.
  • Opening hours are set for 8:00–20:00 on weekdays across the six centers, with Saturday service at Alexanderplatz, Zoologischer Garten, Rathaus Steglitz and Rathaus Spandau.
  • Coverage differs on the final service dates for each site (12 vs 18 December) and on the year of a prior Alt-Tegel closure, which BVG linked to an expiring lease and increased digital use.
