BVG Holds Topping-Out at Treptow E-Bus Depot as Charging Infrastructure Is Completed

The site anchors a near-€2 billion bus electrification push backed by €160 million in federal funds.

Overview

  • Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder, Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and Transport Senator Ute Bonde attended the ceremony in Schöneweide.
  • The depot spans both banks of the Spree near the Minna-Todenhagen Bridge, providing about 220 parking and charging bays plus workshops and 32 additional spaces.
  • Pantograph charging bridges and an automated depot system will handle parking, charging cycles and service intervals for the fleet.
  • BVG estimates around €120 million for the Treptow facility, with €120 million of the federal support package allocated to this site.
  • Opening is targeted for 2027 as BVG grows from 277 e-buses today to roughly 500 by then, progresses a parallel depot in Marienfelde and moves toward an emissions-free fleet in the early 2030s.
