Buzzard Survives A20 Collision, Rescued From Car’s Radiator Grille

Officers dismantled part of the front grille to free the raptor before transferring it to specialist care.

  • The crash occurred around 11:40 a.m. Saturday on the A20 between Mönkhagen and the Kreuz Lübeck.
  • A 54-year-old driver from Lübeck struck an adult buzzard with her Opel at about 100 km/h.
  • The bird was found alive wedged in the radiator grille with a minor wing injury.
  • Autobahnpolizei Bad Oldesloe worked with the driver and a bird officer to remove part of the grille and free the animal.
  • The buzzard was handed over for further treatment and was reported to be doing well, while car damage was estimated at about €200.
