Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Quietly Soft-Opens at Magic Kingdom Before April 8 Return

The unannounced previews let Disney test the upgraded shooter ride with real guests ahead of its relaunch.

Overview

  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin began welcoming walk-up guests in a soft opening on Monday and continued on Tuesday, a week before the official April 8 reopening.
  • During the previews the ride is not listed in the My Disney Experience app, operates via standby only with no Lightning Lane, and may open or close without notice.
  • Disney’s overhaul adds handheld always-on laser blasters, reactive digital targets that light up when hit, refreshed ride vehicles with onboard scoring screens, and a new Buddy training scene.
  • Early riders and on-site reporters noted issues being tuned during testing, including very quiet queue audio, a misaligned projector, a View-Master prop that spun nonstop, and an animatronic briefly blocked by a curtain.
  • The attraction formally returns on April 8 and will be offered as a Tier 2 Lightning Lane option once it is fully back in the daily lineup.
