- Illinois State University, his alma mater, confirmed the death of former All-Star Lee “Buzz” Capra at age 78.
- Illinois State head coach Steve Holm called Capra a program legend and offered condolences to his family and former teammates.
- In 1974 with Atlanta, Capra made the NL All-Star team, led the league with a 2.28 ERA, and went 16–8 over 217 innings.
- A 27th-round Mets pick in 1969, he debuted in 1971 and moved to the Braves when New York sold his contract before the 1974 season.
- Arm injuries soon curtailed his career, and after posting a 3.87 MLB ERA overall he shifted to coaching at Northeastern Illinois and as a minor-league pitching coach for the Braves, Mets, Expos, Phillies and White Sox.
