Bus Fire Guts Vehicle on Mumbai Highway as Separate Ghatkopar Blaze Injures Three

Investigations into the causes are underway following swift containment by emergency teams.

Overview

  • A private sleeper-coach caught fire around 10:01 am on the Western Express Highway near the Times of India Bridge in Malad East, and all aboard were evacuated without injury.
  • Firefighters extinguished the Malad bus blaze in roughly 30 minutes, but traffic on the corridor slowed as the gutted vehicle was cleared.
  • A Level-1 fire reported around 10:20–10:22 am at an industrial/commercial unit in Ghatkopar West injured three men—Riyazuddin, Valayat Ali and Haddis Ali—with one in critical condition from 60% burns.
  • Crews confined the Ghatkopar flames to shop no. 209 and declared the fire fully out by about 1:05 pm after nearly three hours; the injured were taken to Rajawadi Hospital and later left against medical advice.
  • Authorities have not determined causes; preliminary reporting points to possible wiring faults and fuel-fed escalation in the bus fire, while additional smaller incidents in Thane and Palghar were reported with no casualties.
