Overview
- On Tuesday a passenger bus traveling on the Srinagar–Baltal road near Hariganiwan in Ganderbal lost control on a curve, veered off the road and crashed into a low area and a house, injuring roughly 30–39 pilgrims.
- Army units, CRPF, ITBP, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF teams and local volunteers launched a coordinated rescue that evacuated all injured to nearby hospitals and to SKIMS in Srinagar for treatment.
- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ordered medical assistance and monitoring for the victims, health ministers visited SKIMS, and police have registered a probe to establish the crash cause.
- The accident comes as the Amarnath Yatra is running only via the Baltal route while the Pahalgam (Nunwan) axis remains closed for Border Roads Organisation repairs after heavy rains and landslides.
