Overview
- Vault Breaker will join Marathon as an experimental PvE-only mode and Bungie announced the plan on June 23 for rollout in the mid-season update on July 21.
- Players may run Cryo Archive solo, in duos, or in full crews through a series of increasingly difficult vaults that end with a final encounter.
- Any gear found in Vault Breaker will be left behind at exit and the only thing you keep is Vault Data, a new mode-specific currency used to upgrade Vault Breaker loadouts or to buy unspecified cross-mode gear.
- Access to the mode requires using a Sponsored Kit, one of Marathon’s free loadouts, and Vault Breaker features its own session-spanning progression to let characters grow stronger across multiple matches without affecting other modes.
- The July 21 mid-season patch also adds a Cradle Evolution prestige system and quality-of-life and tuning changes while Bungie teases a broader Season Three revamp, including major early-game changes to Perimeter on September 22.
