Overview
- The Bundeswehr placed the order on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for more than 2,000 unprotected transport vehicles with a gross value of about €1.015 billion.
- The fleet includes roughly 1,000 heavy 8×8 trucks and about 1,000 smaller 4×4 and 6×6 variants built to carry personnel, supplies and ammunition rather than serve as armoured combat vehicles.
- Rheinmetall said deliveries will begin in the first half of 2026 and that the majority of vehicles are expected to be handed over to the Bundeswehr within 2026.
- The vehicles will be manufactured by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV), a joint venture of Rheinmetall and MAN/Volkswagen, and use a common HX-based platform to simplify training, operation and maintenance.
- The order is the fourth tranche of a 2024 framework that can deliver up to 6,500 trucks and reflects a longer-term push to modernize German logistics for national defence and NATO support while providing a near-term revenue boost to Rheinmetall.
