Bulega Wins Red-Flagged Balaton Park Superpole Race as Ducati Locks Out Top Six

BMW faces Race 2 with no entrants after medical rulings.

Overview

  • WorldSBK’s Superpole Race was red-flagged on Sunday after a first-lap crash involving Andrea Locatelli, Miguel Oliveira and Sam Lowes that required trackside treatment for Oliveira.
  • Stewards reviewed the incident and issued Locatelli a double long-lap penalty, and the race was then restarted over eight laps.
  • Nicolo Bulega controlled the restart to defeat teammate Iker Lecuona by 0.894 seconds, with Lorenzo Baldassarri third as Ducati riders swept the top six.
  • Miguel Oliveira was diagnosed with a concussion and a left shoulder injury and was transferred to Székesfehérvár hospital, while Danilo Petrucci was also ruled out with a left hip contusion, leaving BMW off the Race 2 grid.
  • The Superpole finishing order sets the lineup for Race 2 and extends Bulega’s championship lead to 77 points after he also led the morning Warm Up.
