Buenos Aires Senators Propose Provincewide Ban on Motorized Vehicles on Beaches

Debate now moves to the provincial Legislature as coastal towns, led by Pinamar, tighten on-the-ground enforcement.

Overview

  • The bill, introduced on January 20 by Sergio Vargas and Carlos Kikuchi of the Unión y Libertad bloc, seeks a uniform rule for the Atlantic coast.
  • It would bar cars, motorcycles, quads and UTVs from beaches, allowing circulation only for emergencies, security duties, maintenance or essential public services.
  • Sponsors say the proposal responds to recent injuries involving off-road vehicles in Pinamar and Villa Gesell and stresses protection of dunes, flora and fauna.
  • The draft calls for coordinated implementation between the province and coastal municipalities to avoid gaps or conflicting local regulations.
  • Separately, Pinamar’s Decree 0104/2026 is already in force with fines up to about 15 million pesos, vehicle seizure, license suspensions and liability for medical and environmental costs in high-risk areas such as La Frontera.
