Overview
- AUBASA, the provincial highway operator, has awarded the installation of an automated tolling system that removes physical booths and begins civil works in the coming days with activation targeted for the third quarter of 2026.
- The first stage covers four sites: Route 6 between San Vicente and General Las Heras, Route 11 at Mar Chiquita, the Dock Sud access to the City, and selected sections of the Buenos Aires–La Plata highway.
- The system uses overhead gantries with cameras and sensors to read license plates or detect TelePASE, charges vehicles automatically at speed, and requires drivers without TelePASE to pay later through digital channels with fines for nonpayment.
- Planned infrastructure changes include four free‑flow lanes toward the City at Dock Sud, two lanes per direction added at San Vicente and General Las Heras, and a new fully automated toll point at Mar Chiquita.
- Officials say uninterrupted flow will cut queues, lower crash risk at former booth areas, and reduce fuel use and emissions, with international experience indicating 20% to 40% CO2 cuts on treated stretches.
