Buenos Aires Province Approves Electricity Tariff Recalculation, Raising Bills 12%–17%

The change aligns provincial bills with national wholesale prices under a new targeted subsidy scheme.

Overview

  • Resolution No. 102, published in the provincial gazette, authorizes new tariff tables for EDELAP, EDEA, EDEN and EDES and will extend to cooperatives across Buenos Aires province.
  • Official estimates indicate final household bills will rise about 12%–17%, with an unsubsidized average bill moving to about $52,000 and a subsidized bill to about $33,300 per month, taxes included.
  • Wholesale-linked price updates apply to consumption from February 1, while adjustments to the Value Added of Distribution and other charges begin March 1, showing up in bills issued in March and April.
  • The recalculation incorporates seasonal wholesale prices set by national Resolution SE No. 22/2026 and adapts tariffs to the new Subsidios Energéticos Focalizados framework with capped subsidized consumption, following OCEBA’s review.
  • Because the new ReSEF registry is not fully operational, distributors may recover shortfalls from January 16–31 via a Transitional Tariff Charge, and analysts warn the shift of costs to users will strain real wages and add near-term inflation pressure.
