Buenos Aires City Lifts VTV Fee 28% to $96,968 for Cars

Officials cite higher operating costs reported by concessionaires under contracts that permit tariff reviews once cost changes top 5%.

Overview

  • City hall formalized the increase in the Official Gazette through Resolution No. 79/SECT/26, setting the auto inspection at $96,968.19 and motorcycles at $36,459.72.
  • The final price for cars combines a $86,247.59 service charge with a $10,720.60 cost for the QR sticker that certifies a valid inspection.
  • The new adjustment is the second of 2026, leaving VTV about 53% higher than in January and bringing Capital City prices close to those in Buenos Aires Province.
  • VTV is a mandatory roadworthiness check, booked online, and it can end as approved, conditional with 60 business days to re-test at no charge, or rejected with a repair-and-return requirement.
  • Driving without a valid VTV carries heavy fines of 400 Fixed Units (about $379,996), missing documents can cost 100 UF (about $94,999), and some groups such as low-income pensioners, people with disabilities, and certain caregivers are exempt from paying the fee.
