Budaun HPCL Plant Killings Spur SSP Ouster as Probe Widens

The accused blacklisted supplier is in custody after being shot in the legs during a weapon-recovery operation.

Overview

  • Deputy general manager Sudhir Gupta and assistant manager Harshit Mishra were shot dead inside the Sejni compressed biogas/ethanol facility during a daytime attack on March 12.
  • Police identify the shooter as former supplier Ajay Pratap Singh, who was blacklisted months earlier after alleged misbehaviour and threats, with Gupta’s February 4 threat complaint on record.
  • Investigators say Singh commandeered a department Bolero, had occupants’ phones taken, bypassed gate checks, then opened fire near the administrative block during a meeting.
  • Singh is hospitalized with leg wounds after police say he fired at officers during a weapon recovery in nearby thickets, injuring a constable before being overpowered.
  • The Musajhag SHO and a sub-inspector are suspended for alleged negligence, the district SSP has been transferred, plant operations are halted, and officials say CISF deployment is under consideration.
