BSF Shoots Intruder at Samba Border as Army Corners Suspected Jaish Cell in Kishtwar

Security forces have tightened surveillance ahead of Republic Day after recent infiltration warnings.

Overview

  • BSF personnel opened fire late Sunday after a man who was spotted near the Majra outpost in Samba’s Ramgarh sector ignored repeated warnings to stop, officials said.
  • Officials said the body was recovered on Monday and identified via a Pakistani ID card as Mohd Arif, 61, from Lahore, before being handed to local police.
  • A fresh encounter continued in Kishtwar’s Singhpora forest, where Army and SOG teams reported two to three Jaish-e-Mohammad operatives trapped under a tight cordon supported by drones and sniffer dogs.
  • The Kishtwar push follows earlier escapes on January 18 and 22 and the January 20 discovery of a hideout stocked with winter supplies and ammunition in the Chatroo belt.
  • Regional security has been reinforced along the International Border, and police detained a man in Samba for questioning after Pakistani contact numbers were found on his phone.
