Brooklyn Park Plane Crash Kills N.D. Rep. Liz Conmy, Pilot Joseph R. Cass

The NTSB has opened a probe with a preliminary report expected in about 30 days.

Overview

  • An F33A Beechcraft Bonanza crashed in a Brooklyn Park park shortly after departing Crystal Airport on Saturday around 11:51 a.m., and both people on board were killed.
  • The Hennepin County Medical Examiner on Monday identified the victims as Rep. Elizabeth Anne “Liz” Conmy, 67, and pilot Joseph R. Cass, 73, and FAA records list the aircraft in Cass’s name.
  • Early air traffic control audio captured a brief, garbled call after liftoff, and ADS-B data showed a climb to roughly 950 feet with a left turn before the last return over the crash site.
  • NTSB investigators documented the scene, moved the wreckage to a secure facility for closer examination, and said their initial findings will be published in about a month.
  • Authorities reported no injuries on the ground and fair weather at the time, and North Dakota leaders ordered flags lowered as colleagues and family mourned Conmy’s death.
