Overview
- The Brooklyn District Attorney filed second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child charges against Sunshyne Davis and Robert White on Wednesday.
- The city medical examiner concluded Kyng Davis’s death was caused by child abuse, citing blunt force trauma, starvation, dehydration and severe neglect.
- Prosecutors say the couple brought the bruised and unresponsive 3-year-old to SUNY Downstate on March 9, 2025, left him with hospital staff and departed before he was identified; the child had been dead for hours.
- Neighbors and relatives had raised repeated concerns and the family had an open Administration for Children’s Services file before the death, and police responding to a December 2024 complaint did not enter the unit.
- Davis pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail with a return date in late July, White remains in custody and the DA said the office will vigorously pursue the case while the investigation and court process continue.
