Brooklyn Half Marathon Starts, Shutting Key Roads From Prospect Park to Coney Island

City officials urge riders to plan for extra closures from parades plus festivals citywide.

Overview

  • The RBC Brooklyn Half, which began Saturday at 7 a.m., features four start waves scheduled through 8:30 a.m.
  • The 13.1-mile course runs from Prospect Park to the Coney Island boardwalk with closures along Eastern Parkway, Grand Army Plaza, Ocean Parkway and Surf Avenue including West 10th Street to the boardwalk.
  • No-parking rules and staged street closures that started Thursday remain in effect near the course and staging areas.
  • Organizers advise taking the 2, 3 or 4 trains by wave, with car drop-off at Washington Avenue and Park Place and security screening at designated Eastern Parkway checkpoints.
  • Parades and festivals this weekend add more shutdowns, including the Nepal Day Parade in Manhattan, the Bangladesh Day Parade in Queens, the Turkish Day Parade, the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival and a Bronx food and arts festival.
