Brooklyn Grand Jury Indicts Two in Drive-By Killing of 7-Month-Old

Prosecutors now press murder charges with the intended target still unconfirmed.

Overview

  • A grand jury on Tuesday indicted Amuri Greene, 21, and Matthew Rodriguez, 18, on second-degree murder and other counts in the death of Kaori Patterson-Moore, prosecutors said.
  • Police say Greene fired from the back of a moped driven by Rodriguez during last Wednesday’s daylight attack in East Williamsburg, killing the infant and grazing her 2-year-old brother, who is healing physically but traumatized.
  • Greene’s lawyer waived his court appearance Tuesday and he remains in New York custody, while Rodriguez is held in Pennsylvania after waiving extradition and is expected in Brooklyn by the end of the week.
  • District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said the driver can be held as accountable as the shooter under New York’s acting-in-concert rule, and prosecutors outlined additional counts including attempted murder, weapons, and child endangerment charges.
  • Gonzalez said the gunfire was aimed at someone in the crowd but he would not confirm the baby’s father as the target, even as some law enforcement reporting points to a possible gang dispute under review.
