Brooklyn Daycare Director Indicted in $2.75 Million Tuition Fraud Case

Prosecutors say she diverted parent tuition payments into personal accounts.

Overview

  • Murielle Misczak, arrested and arraigned Wednesday in Brooklyn federal court, pleaded not guilty and was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond with home detention, GPS monitoring, and a curfew.
  • Prosecutors allege she siphoned about $2.75 million from January 2022 through October 2025 by steering tuition to unapproved accounts, moving the money to her own banks, and deleting school records to hide it.
  • The government says the funds paid for travel and luxury spending, including at least $350,000 on WWE tickets and premium packages, about $600,000 on trips and entertainment, and large sums on rideshares and food delivery, with roughly $1 million still unaccounted for.
  • KinderHaus Brooklyn, which serves about 100 children and charges tuition that can reach roughly $48,000 a year, says its principal discovered the diversion in October 2025, covered payroll from personal savings, and filed a civil suit in December.
  • Each wire fraud and money laundering count carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, and the defense says it is reviewing the government’s evidence as the case moves forward.
