Broadcom Seals 2031 Google TPU Deal as Anthropic Secures 3.5GW From 2027

The deals highlight an industry pivot to custom AI chips.

Overview

  • Broadcom disclosed in a Monday securities filing that it will develop and supply future Google tensor processing units through 2031 and that Anthropic will get access to about 3.5 gigawatts of Google TPU compute starting in 2027.
  • Anthropic said its annualized revenue run rate has surpassed $30 billion, up from about $9 billion at the end of 2025, and that more than 1,000 businesses now spend over $1 million a year on its services.
  • Broadcom’s filing states Anthropic’s ability to draw on the expanded TPU capacity depends on the startup’s continued commercial performance, with operational and financial partner discussions underway to support the rollout.
  • Anthropic said most of the new compute will be located in the United States, describing the buildout as part of its earlier $50 billion pledge to strengthen U.S. computing infrastructure.
  • The agreements reflect a shift toward bespoke accelerators such as Google’s TPUs, which compete with Nvidia’s GPUs, even as Anthropic continues to run Claude across a mix of AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and Nvidia GPUs.
