Overview
- Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth inaugurated the completed 28-km axis and the 400-foot Bailey suspension bridge at Taram Chu on February 26.
- Project Swastik of the Border Roads Organisation restored full connectivity to North Sikkim after a GLOF in October 2023, Cyclone Remal in June 2024 and cloudbursts in May–June 2025.
- Engineers cleared 96 landslides, built four major bridges, repaired two, and executed eight kilometres of fresh formation cutting through unstable terrain.
- Officials said the reopening strengthens logistics for security agencies and is expected to revive tourism and economic activity in Lachen and the wider district.
- The ceremony included senior Army and BRO leaders and Sikkim government representatives, and follows the interim reopening of the 7.5-km Naga–Toong stretch in October 2025.
