BRO Reopens Chatergala Pass After 40-Hour Operation, Rescues 60 in J&K

Overview

  • Snow clearance began on the morning of January 24 and continued nearly 40 hours, clearing about 38 km buried under deep snow.
  • The route reopened by the evening of January 25, enabling evacuation of 40 troops from 4 Rashtriya Rifles with weapons and stores and 20 civilians.
  • The mission concluded around 2:30 am on January 26 with zero casualties in coordination with the Indian Army.
  • The effort was led by the 118 Road Construction Company under the 35 Border Roads Task Force as part of Project Sampark.
  • In a separate operation, the BRO cleared roughly 35 km in Rajouri’s Kandi–Kotranka sector, opening a single lane within hours to resume essential traffic.
