BRO Reopens 112-Km Kishtwar–Sansari Link After 72-Hour Snow Clearance

The operation restored crucial inter-state access for remote communities that rely on the route for supplies and services.

Overview

  • BRO said vehicular movement on the Kishtwar–Sansari axis is restored after repeated late-January snowstorms blocked the 112-km route.
  • The 118 Road Construction Company of the 35 Border Roads Task Force executed a concentrated 72-hour push under Project Sampark to clear the road.
  • The corridor climbs to 8,759 feet and reconnects J&K’s Chenab Valley with Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti region.
  • Officials detailed a phased effort that cleared roughly 2.5 feet by January 26 and about 3.5 feet between January 28 and 30 to reopen the link.
  • BRO teams continue snow-removal on the Mughal Road, where 8 to 10 feet of accumulation is being worked through to sustain winter connectivity.
