Bristol Police Launch Murder Inquiry After Man in His 40s Dies on Stapleton Road

Seven men aged 18 to 29 remain in custody on suspicion of murder.

  • Officers on patrol encountered a group at about 10:45pm on Monday on Stapleton Road, pursued them on foot into Trinity Walk and George Jones Park, and detained seven men.
  • Roughly 10 minutes later a man in his 40s was found critically injured near the Trinity Road junction, was taken to hospital, and died on Tuesday morning; formal identification and a post-mortem are expected.
  • All seven detainees were re-arrested on suspicion of murder as detectives carry out forensic searches and review CCTV and other evidence.
  • Police cordons were established at Stapleton Road and George Jones Park during searches and, according to local reports on Wednesday morning, have since been lifted.
