Overview
- The auction took place Monday at Hôtel Drouot in Paris and sold roughly 285–300 lots from Bardot’s Paris apartment and Saint-Tropez homes for about €953,531 in total.
- Lots included hats, glasses, nightdresses, portraits, dog collars, a typewriter and personal manuscripts that together attracted about 3,000 registered bidders from France and abroad.
- Several items sold for far above pre-sale estimates, with two dog collars estimated at €30 fetching €9,400 and a self-portrait selling for nearly €40,000.
- Bernard d’Ormale, Bardot’s widower, publicly called the sale “scandalous” and said he was not informed, while the Fondation Brigitte Bardot says its board approved the June sale, a vote the foundation says included d’Ormale.
- The foundation says proceeds will finance its animal-protection work and the payment to Bardot’s only son, continuing a fundraising approach the actress used in 1987 to create the foundation.
