Overview
- The mural, titled "South Side en la Hora Mágica," was unveiled on May 20 and painted on the west wall of Paleteria Yayo at 1727 W. Lincoln Ave., facing Lincoln Avenue School.
- Lead artists Aisha Valentín and Whitney Salgado created the spray-painted piece in collaboration with Luna Creative Collaborations and Paleteria Yayo co-owners, with funding and commissioning by the Milwaukee Brewers.
- The image shows a paletero selling frozen treats from a pushcart to children with American Family Field in the background, and it includes a small tribute to Reynaldo Mexicano Jr., the artist originally chosen for the project who died in 2025.
- Artists say students at the nearby majority-Latino school helped shape the design so the mural can be a daily source of pride and visibility for youth who speak Spanish at home.
- The work is the sixth mural in the Brewers' community program and organizers say the project underscores gaps in public art funding while raising the profile of vulnerable street vendors and local cultural traditions.
