Breeze Launches Atlantic City Service After Spirit Shutdown

The carrier is restoring key routes with fewer weekly flights, signaling a slower rebuild of the airport’s schedule.

Overview

  • Breeze operated its first Atlantic City flight to Charleston on Wednesday after Spirit canceled all service days earlier.
  • The airline set start dates to replace four former Spirit routes: Orlando daily from July 3, Myrtle Beach twice weekly from Oct. 22, Fort Myers three times weekly from Oct. 22, and West Palm Beach three times weekly from Dec. 17.
  • Airport director Tim Kroll said Breeze and Allegiant will add new destinations such as Charleston and Raleigh-Durham, with more cities likely but with fewer departures on some routes than travelers were used to.
  • Breeze also announced a wider 11-route expansion that includes its first flights to St. Thomas and new links to Cancun and Punta Cana from other U.S. cities.
  • About 17,000 Spirit employees lost their jobs nationwide, and local hiring in Atlantic City remains unclear as carriers watch demand and adjust their schedules.
