Brazilian Banks Set Year-End Schedule With Reduced Hours and Holiday Closures

Febraban advises using Pix plus digital channels to plan payments around non-compensation days.

Overview

  • On December 24, branches open for reduced hours from 9:00 to 11:00 Brasília time, or 8:00 to 10:00 in states with one- or two-hour differences.
  • There is no in-person service on December 25 and January 1, with no bank clearing or TED processing on those dates while Pix operates 24/7 as usual.
  • December 30 is the final normal business day for in-person services, and December 31 has no branch service or transaction compensation.
  • Consumer bills due on December 25, December 31, or January 1 can be paid on the next business day without penalties, whereas taxes should be paid in advance to avoid fines and interest.
  • Local municipal holidays can suspend counter services in specific cities according to Febraban's annual calendar, with ATMs, internet and mobile banking, DDA, correspondents, and call centers remaining available.
