Overview
- The Army promoted pediatrician Cláudia Lima Gusmão Cacho to brigadier general during a Wednesday ceremony in Brasília.
- She received the traditional sword and baton of command and will lead the Brasília Area Military Hospital.
- Cacho was the only woman among 30 officers elevated in the event, which advanced 17 colonels to brigadier general, 11 to division general and 2 to army general.
- The move followed a secret High Command vote on February 24 and a presidential act signed by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
- Cacho’s promotion follows recent steps to expand women’s roles, including first promotions to subtenente in 2025 and the induction of the first women soldiers in March 2026.
