Brazil Inaugurates TV 3.0 Test Station in Brasília

The pilot positions free-to-air TV to add internet features, including apps, on-demand video, viewer interaction and targeted services.

Overview

  • The station, which opened Tuesday in Brasília under the Communications Ministry, Anatel and EBC, begins open testing of the DTV+ platform.
  • Broadcasters in the capital can now trial transmissions, and the site is slated to launch early services for EBC and Rede Legislativa in the coming months.
  • Authorities are aiming to start regular TV 3.0 broadcasts in June 2026 to coincide with the World Cup that begins on June 11.
  • TV 3.0 blends over-the-air signals with internet connectivity to deliver app-like channels, on-demand content, voting and shopping tools, targeted ads, and 4K–8K video with immersive audio at no direct cost to viewers.
  • The lab was built under Anatel’s implementation group led by councilor Octavio Pieranti to validate equipment and formats before expanding to other capitals, with São Paulo already running experimental setups.
