Braves Place Ronald Acuña Jr. on 10-Day IL With Left Hamstring Strain

An MRI confirmed a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring so Atlanta moved him to the 10-day injured list to protect his availability while using roster depth.

Overview

  • Acuña pulled up running to first and left the Braves’ game in Chicago after suffering left hamstring tightness on Tuesday, then was examined with an MRI the next day.
  • The MRI showed a Grade 1 left hamstring strain and the Braves formally placed him on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday.
  • Atlanta opened a roster spot by designating Jhancarlos Lara for assignment and called up Rowdy Tellez to the major-league roster.
  • This is the second left-hamstring IL stint for Acuña this season and it adds to a history of lower-body injuries that have limited his availability in recent years.
  • With the Braves holding baseball’s best record and a sizable division lead, the club plans to be cautious and will rely on depth pieces such as Eli White, Mauricio Dubón and Jorge Mateo while monitoring Acuña’s recovery.
