Brandeis Survey Finds Comparable Campus Hostility Across Jewish, Muslim and Black Students

The report links antisemitism to wider campus prejudice, urging universities to tailor responses.

Overview

  • The Brandeis Cohen Center report, released Tuesday, draws on an Oct. 2025–Jan. 2026 survey of 3,989 undergraduates at 303 four-year colleges.
  • Nearly half of Jewish students reported at least one antisemitic incident, most often offensive graffiti or posters on campus.
  • Perceived hostile environments were reported by 37% of Jewish students, 47% of Muslim students and 34% of Black students.
  • Across the broader student body, 17% expressed anti-Black resentment, 9% held hostile views about Jews, 15% voiced anti-Israel views most Jews consider antisemitic and 4% were hostile to multiple minority groups.
  • Researchers say expressions of bias vary by politics and demographics and they urge group‑specific interventions, while noting the survey did not provide campus‑by‑campus results to protect anonymity.
