Overview
- NeuEN Green Energy, the BPCL–Sembcorp joint venture, won Tuesday’s tender to supply 10,000 tonnes a year of green hydrogen to Numaligarh Refinery at Rs 279 per kg.
- The award uses a build-own-operate model with a 25-year commitment to deliver gaseous hydrogen to the refinery site in Assam.
- Commercial operations are targeted for 2028, with the developer responsible for design, construction, commissioning, and long-term operations and maintenance.
- The plant will pair renewable power with energy storage to run electrolyser units that split water into hydrogen around the clock, which is meant to cut the refinery’s emissions.
- Sources said rival bids at Rs 280 and Rs 281 per kg show prices clustering below Rs 300, a shift that could influence how future industrial hydrogen contracts are structured and priced.
