Bozeman Man Charged With Deliberate Homicide After Downtown Bar Shooting

Surveillance, witness statements and the suspect's admissions have supported charges as investigators search for a firearm reportedly discarded near the scene.

Overview

  • Police say a fight that began inside the Rocking R Bar escalated outside when 22-year-old Jakob Steven Lundberg returned from his vehicle with a gun and shot 29-year-old Sidney Callaghan on May 25.
  • Callaghan was taken to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital and was pronounced dead after life-saving efforts at the scene.
  • Lundberg fled in a Subaru WRX but was located and arrested on North 7th Avenue near Walmart and taken to the Bozeman Public Safety Center.
  • Charging documents cite Rocking R Bar surveillance, multiple witness statements and Lundberg's own admissions, including a phone call to his father, while investigators say the weapon has not yet been recovered.
  • Lundberg appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court on May 26 and faces deliberate homicide, criminal endangerment and tampering with evidence charges with bail set at $1.5 million as police continue to ask witnesses to come forward.
