Boston Prepares to Host Sail250 Fleet as Parade of Sail Arrives July 11

Final transportation and security plans are due in the weeks before the events so officials can manage expected crowds and berth dozens of international ships

Overview

  • Organizers confirmed a multinational Sail250 lineup that will bring more than 60 tall ships and naval vessels to Boston Harbor with the Parade of Sail set for Saturday, July 11.
  • Several flagship ships are named on the roster, including Portugal’s Sagres, Argentina’s ARA Libertad, Chile’s Esmeralda, the U.S. Coast Guard’s Eagle, the square-rigged Elissa, and the USS Constitution.
  • Visitors will be able to board many vessels while they are berthed and ship tours and waterfront programming are scheduled through Wednesday, July 15, with fireworks launching from a barge off Fan Pier on the night of July 11.
  • WCVB Channel 5 is the exclusive broadcast partner and will provide live coverage from July 11–16, and organizers say detailed guidance on transit, berthing access and crowd controls will be published in the coming weeks.
  • The Sail250 tour began in New Orleans and will visit multiple port cities before Boston and officials warn the event could draw millions, prompting added staffing, street closures and transit adjustments including shuttle plans and suspended ferry service during the parade.
