Overview
- Bosch began sample production at its Roseville, California facility on July 13, 2026 after finalizing a $225 million agreement with the U.S. Commerce Department’s CHIPS Program Office.
- The company bought the site from TSI Semiconductors in 2023 and reconfigured it with about $2 billion in investment to run 200 mm silicon carbide (SiC) wafers.
- The Roseville site currently has roughly 130,000 square feet of clean-room space and about 250 employees and is expected to move to commercial production later in 2026.
- Silicon carbide chips control high-voltage power in EV drivetrains to improve range and charging speed and can also serve data centers and defense applications.
- By retooling an existing fab rather than building new, Bosch shortened its timeline to market and created dedicated SiC capacity that could shield automakers from competition for fab time with higher‑margin AI chips.
