Bosch Finalizes Waiblingen Shutdown Plan for Connection-Technology Production by 2028

The move reflects steep European revenue declines coupled with high costs.

Overview

  • Bosch and the Waiblingen works council have signed a social plan and reconciliation of interests that formalize the closure path.
  • Production of automotive connection-technology parts at the site will be phased out and stop by 2028, affecting about 560 employees.
  • Roughly 220 employees will be offered transfers to other Bosch locations, with the rest covered by partial retirement, early retirement and voluntary severance to minimize compulsory layoffs.
  • Bosch cites noncompetitive costs and a near-halving of European revenue for connection-technology products over the past eight years, with further declines anticipated.
  • Supply of the former Waiblingen products will shift to plants in China and Thailand, while other subsidiaries at the Waiblingen site are not affected.
