Border Curbs and Poster Drives Intensify J&K Hunt for JeM Commander Saifullah

Police say the JeM leader remains at large after a forest hideout was found in Doda, prompting a push for civilian tips given concerns over possible disguise.

Overview

  • Security forces widened searches across Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri and Poonch after discovering a suspected hideout in Gandoh’s Chilli forest with fresh supplies.
  • J&K Police circulated posters of Saifullah in Doda, including versions with and without a beard, and urged the public to report sightings with confidentiality assured.
  • Intelligence inputs warn Saifullah may try to evade capture by changing his appearance, including the possible use of women’s clothing or a burqa, as he seeks to flee the Chatroo belt.
  • In Kathua, authorities restricted unnecessary movement within five kilometres of the International Border for 60 days and barred heavy vehicles on the old Samba–Kathua road overnight.
  • Kathua also saw posters of five suspected terrorists briefly displayed and then removed, as the Army’s White Knight Corps reviewed the counter-terror grid following recent encounters that killed four Pakistani JeM militants and one Army paratrooper.
