Bone Found in East London Search for Muriel McKay as Police Launch Forensic Inquiry

Police forensic analysis is underway to establish the bone's origin.

Overview

  • An independent excavation at a Bethnal Green property uncovered a single bone around 1:45pm, the family said.
  • Metropolitan Police confirmed officers are on scene and are working to determine where the bone came from.
  • The discovery followed a family-commissioned ground scan on 5 March prompted by a tip from Hayley Frais, daughter of late tailor Percy Chaplin.
  • Grandson Mark Dyer said the bone is about nine inches long with one end appearing chopped, while formal identification remains pending.
  • McKay was abducted in 1969 and two brothers were convicted in 1970, but her body has never been found despite previous searches.
