Bombay HC Halts Worli SRA Transit Camps on Sewage-Plant Land

Judges flagged alleged suppression of BMC objections by SRA officials, with affidavits now due on a cut in the STP reservation.

Overview

  • The court stopped all construction by the developer and directed removal of the partly built transit camp plus rapid clearance of Building 1.
  • The bench told the SRA chief to examine the roles of Deputy Chief Engineer Rama Mitkar and Executive Engineer D. B. Patil and to consider suspension or transfer pending inquiry within a week.
  • Judges recorded BMC letters from December 26, 2024 and June 27, 2025 objecting to work on the STP-reserved plot, noting that SRA approvals on April 11, 2025 allowed seven transit buildings despite those warnings.
  • The order questioned how the STP reservation reportedly shrank from about 27,964 sq m to about 17,756 sq m and sought time-bound affidavits from the state and BMC.
  • The SRA CEO has lodged an FIR against the developer and unknown officers, and the court said the police probe will proceed independently of departmental action.
