Bomb Threat Sent Through Navi Mumbai Airport Website Prompts Hour-Long Search, No Explosive Found

Cyber Cell investigators are tracing email, mobile and IP records to identify the sender and limit future disruption.

Overview

  • A message claiming a bomb had been placed inside Navi Mumbai International Airport was sent via the airport's official 'Contact Us' form at about 7:20 am on June 24, triggering the alert.
  • Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad teams, ISF personnel and airport security carried out a roughly one-hour sweep of the premises and declared the site safe after finding no suspicious object.
  • Police registered a case against an unidentified person and handed the probe to the Cyber Cell to trace the email ID, mobile number and IP address linked to the threat.
  • Following a complaint by an airport employee, the Airport Police Station recorded a non-cognisable offence and Sub-Inspector Ramesh Patil was named as the officer conducting the technical inquiry.
  • Officials say the message appears aimed at creating panic and disrupting operations, and investigators are pursuing digital leads that, if attributed, could lead to criminal charges; similar threats were reported earlier in June, keeping agencies on high alert.
