Overview
- The first report came on Saturday evening when Greater Manchester Police were called to a suspicious item in a front garden on Abram Close that led to a cordon and about 20 nearby homes being told to evacuate.
- Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams used specialist robots to assess and remove the initial package and the scene was stood down after officers declared the package safely removed.
- Just hours later on Sunday afternoon a second suspicious item was found outside a property on Rostherne Avenue and was assessed by EOD teams; local reporting says that item is understood to have been a modified firework.
- Police have stressed there is no wider threat, said the incidents are not being treated as terror-related, and confirmed no arrests have been made while enquiries continue.
- Detective Chief Inspector Peter Morley urged anyone with information or CCTV, dashcam or mobile footage to contact Greater Manchester Police or Crimestoppers to help establish how the items came to be placed.
