Boil-Water Order Issued for Parts of Rimpar After E. Coli Found in Supply

Chlorination continues pending tests to identify the contamination source.

Overview

  • Local health authorities in Würzburg instructed affected Rimpar households to boil tap water for drinking, cooking, washing produce, tooth brushing, and medical uses.
  • Tests found E. coli in the Hochbehälter Mühlenberg reservoir (3/100 ml) and in a well (E. coli 1/100 ml; coliforms 2/100 ml), exceeding the 0/100 ml standard, and both sites were taken offline.
  • The water network is being disinfected with chlorine, and residents are advised to use bottled table water as an alternative for consumption and medical needs.
  • Officials say showering, bathing, and toilet flushing remain safe, and no related illnesses had been reported at the time of the advisory.
  • Further analyses are underway to determine how fecal contamination entered the system, and the boil notice will stay in place until an official all-clear is issued.
